Some Hallmark pairings have a way of staying with you long after the credits roll.
That is certainly true of Emilie Ullerup and Kristoffer Polaha, whose 2016 collaboration Hearts of Christmas gave viewers a holiday romance filled with warmth, compassion, family, and the kind of Christmas spirit that feels especially meaningful.
The movie originally aired in December 2016 and centered on a neonatal intensive care unit, where a beloved supervisor faces forced early retirement. Her younger colleague Jenny wants to make the upcoming staff Christmas party into a special celebration, but the hospital’s new chief financial officer has been assigned to reduce costs. What makes Hearts of Christmas memorable isn’t simply the romance.
It’s the heart behind it.
The hospital setting gives the Christmas story an emotional dimension that goes beyond decorations and presents. The characters are dealing with questions about work, compassion, change, and what happens when financial decisions begin affecting people who have devoted themselves to helping others.
Against that backdrop, the Christmas celebration becomes more than a party.
