From Spring Tulips to Montana Snow, Fiona Gubelmann’s Hallmark Journey Has Come Full Circle

of Romance

Fast-forward to 2025, and Fiona Gubelmann returned to Hallmark in a role that couldn’t be more different from Rose.

In A Royal Montana Christmas, she plays Princess Victoria of Zelarnia, a woman overwhelmed by her royal responsibilities who travels to Montana for Christmas. There, she meets Huntley, played by Warren Christie, and finds herself drawn to a life far removed from the world she knows. Hallmark lists Gubelmann and Christie as the film’s stars. And suddenly, those tulip fields have been replaced by Montana ranch country, horses, Christmas decorations, and snowy holiday scenery.

Yet underneath the very different setting is a familiar Hallmark theme.

Finding out what really makes you happy.

Victoria has everything that should theoretically make life perfect. She has a royal title, responsibilities, privilege, and a world built around tradition. But being surrounded by everything doesn’t necessarily mean feeling fulfilled.

Her trip to Montana gives her something she can’t easily find inside palace walls: freedom.

She can experience ordinary moments.

She can laugh.

She can participate in ranch activities.

She can reconnect with memories from her past.

And, of course, she can meet someone who makes her question whether the life she has always known is actually the life she wants.

That is classic Hallmark territory—but Gubelmann’s performance gives the familiar idea its own personality.

Rather than making Victoria simply a stereotypical princess, the movie allows her to be curious, vulnerable, funny, and increasingly comfortable outside the expectations placed upon her.

Her chemistry with Warren Christie is also an important part of the movie’s appeal. The story works because Victoria and Huntley come from completely different worlds, giving their interactions plenty of opportunities for humor and romantic tension. Contemporary reviews highlighted the pair’s chemistry and the movie’s lighthearted charm. (Decider)

And then there is the scenery.

If Tulips in Spring was defined by flowers and springtime color, A Royal Montana Christmas embraces the opposite seasonal feeling: winter, ranches, horses, Christmas lights, and the wide-open beauty of Montana.

It’s almost poetic to see Gubelmann photographed in these two very different settings.

One image captures her surrounded by spring flowers.

The other places her in a wintry Christmas world.

Nearly ten years separate those pictures, but the warmth in her performances remains recognizable.

That’s part of what makes an actor’s Hallmark journey so enjoyable to follow.

We don’t just watch individual movies.

We watch careers evolve.

We see performers take on different characters, different settings, different romantic partners, and different emotional challenges. And when an actor continues returning to the network, those movies become little milestones along the way.

For Gubelmann, A Royal Montana Christmas represents another chapter in a Hallmark career that has included a wide range of roles. Her work has extended beyond individual holiday romances, with credits including Wilfred, Playing House, and Hallmark favorites such as The Rooftop Christmas Tree and Christmas Next Door, among others.

Her ability to move between comedy, romance, family stories, and holiday fare has helped make her a familiar and beloved presence for viewers.

And perhaps that’s why seeing her 2016 and 2025 images side by side feels so satisfying.

It’s not simply a “then and now.”

It’s a reminder of the journey.
