That is exactly the charm of A Dickens of a Holiday!
Released as part of Hallmark Channel’s 2021 Countdown to Christmas, the movie stars Brooke D’Orsay as Cassie and Kristoffer Polaha as Jake. The story centers on Cassie, who is determined to make her hometown’s 100th anniversary Victorian festival a success. To help bring the celebration to life, she invites Jake, an action-movie star and her former high school classmate, to take on the role of Scrooge in a production of A Christmas Carol. On paper, it sounds like the perfect recipe for a holiday romance.
But what makes the movie especially enjoyable is the way it blends its romance with the idea of returning to one’s roots.
Cassie isn’t simply organizing another Christmas event. She’s trying to preserve something meaningful for her community. The Victorian festival has history, tradition, and emotional significance, and that gives the story a wonderfully nostalgic foundation.
Then Jake comes home.
